Importance of Oxygen to Our Health

Our body’s tissues needs oxygen to live.  When there is an inadequate supply of oxygen in the body, the condition called “anoxia” occur.  Oxygen shortage may be apparent in blood circulation.  The blood’s red cells may be inadequate in amount or the red coloring that is necessary to carry oxygen.  Anything blocking the circulation also blocks the oxygen supply.  The cells  of the body some times are unable since there is a change taking up the oxygen that reaches them.

Because all our body parts need oxygen, a shortage of oxygen affects all our body parts.  However, there are some body tissues that are much dependent on oxygen that others are.  The nervous system is among the most sensitive in all of them that a sudden lack of oxygen in it may result an impairment judgment, lack of movement co-ordination and in condition that resembles to a drunk person.  After this situation persist, the person becomes drowsy, fatigued, inattentive and unable to respond to even ordinary stimuli.

It the lack of oxygen will persist in the brain, death might result form their inability to breathe.  Failure of sufficient oxygen to reach organs such as the liver and muscles may result in acidosis.
